Authentically YOU
Just You
There is space for you to take up space – for all and any type, kind, and range of thought / feeling / emotion that comes up for you. Whether it fits into a frame, a diagnosis, or someone else’s interpretation of you – this is not the space to worry about that.
This is the space to bring all things ‘You’, especially the ones that feel hidden and disavowed from your true self; the only ones only you know about.
Amongst the familiar themes of YOU-focused work is a feeling that you will never miss anyone as much as you miss yourself. When you meet yourself afresh, you will connect with the one you have always known best.
This poem by Derek Walcott best encapsulates the work:
“Love after Love”
The time will come
when, with elation,
you will greet yourself arriving
at your own door, in your own mirror
and each will smile at the other’s welcome,
and say, sit here. Eat.
You will love again the stranger who was your self.
Give wine. Give bread. Give back your heart
to itself, to the stranger who has loved you
all your life, whom you ignored
for another, who knows you by heart.
Take down the love letters from the bookshelf,
the photographs, the desperate notes,
peel your own image from the mirror.
Sit. Feast on your life.
